Travel Experience

This was one of those roads where the landscape kept changing just when we thought we'd figured it out. We'd spend an hour driving through red rock country and then suddenly find ourselves surrounded by forests at a much higher elevation.

One of the most memorable sections crossed a narrow ridge with views dropping away on both sides. It wasn't dangerous, but it definitely got everyone's attention. Even people who had been looking at their phones started staring out the windows.

The small towns along the route felt like natural places to stop and reset for a while. None of them were particularly large, but after long stretches of open road they provided a welcome break from driving.

What surprised me most was how varied the scenery was. Most scenic drives seem to focus on one type of landscape, but this route felt more like several different road trips connected together.

Near the end of the day we were trying to remember all the places we'd passed through and realized we'd already forgotten half of them. There was simply too much scenery packed into a single route for everything to stick.
