Travel Experience

The Atlantic Ocean looked completely different from the Mediterranean coast. The waves were larger, the wind was stronger, and the whole landscape felt a little less polished.

Surfboards seemed to be everywhere. Parking lots, rooftops, cafés, and beaches all had people either heading to the water or coming back from it.

Several sections of road ran close enough to the coast that we could hear the waves when we stopped. Those short breaks often lasted longer than planned because the views were hard to leave behind.

The towns had a noticeably different character from other parts of France we had visited. Local architecture, food, and even street signs reflected the Basque identity of the region.

The Atlantic Basque Coast Drive felt energetic without being hectic. There was always something happening, but the ocean remained the focus for most of the journey.
