Travel Experience
We left Baku thinking it would feel like a proper desert drive, but the first part was just normal roads and scattered buildings. It took a bit before things started looking empty enough to feel like we were actually heading somewhere different.
At one point we pulled over near some rock formations because there were already a couple of cars parked there. The carvings were there, but honestly we spent more time trying to figure out which ones were the “important” ones than actually looking at them properly.
There was a long stretch where nothing much happened and we just kept driving straight through flat, dry land. Someone asked how long the drive feels in this kind of terrain, and nobody had a great answer, it just felt longer than the map suggested.
Later we stopped again just because the light was getting better for photos, not because we planned to. I remember sand getting into the shoes and someone complaining about it more than the actual heat. Driving this route felt less like an adventure and more like a slow transition between small points of interest.
By the time we were heading back, the whole Gobustan Desert Drive already blended together a bit. You could see why people come for the history and landscapes, but the scenic drive experience in Absheron is mostly about short stops separated by a lot of open, quiet road.
