Travel Experience
Most of the drive felt quieter than we expected. After leaving the larger roads, traffic thinned out quickly and the landscape became mostly forest and open countryside.
We spent much longer inside the national park than we planned, so when we got back to the car it felt like the road trip had almost become a separate part of the day.
There were stretches where the road passed through dense woodland with very little to see beyond the trees. Then suddenly a clearing or viewpoint would appear and remind us how hilly the region actually is.
At one roadside stop we barely got out of the car. Everyone seemed more focused on reaching the lakes than stopping along the way, and honestly we felt the same.
By the end of the Plitvice Lakes Drive, the waterfalls and turquoise lakes had completely overshadowed the road itself. I remember the forests and quiet roads, but mostly as the journey leading into and out of the park experience.
