Travel Experience

We kept telling ourselves we would make good progress that day, but every time the road dropped toward another bay someone wanted to stop and have a look.

At one small harbor we parked next to a few fishing boats and ended up walking around longer than planned. Nothing special was happening there, but it felt like the kind of place where time moves more slowly.

There were stretches where the road hugged the coastline for miles, then suddenly climbed into dry hills before returning to the sea again. It never really settled into one type of landscape.

We stopped for lunch in a town where most of the tables seemed occupied by locals rather than travelers. Afterward nobody was in much of a hurry to continue, so we stayed longer than necessary.

By the end of the Peloponnese Coastal Drive, the individual stops had started to blend together. What I remember most is the constant back-and-forth between mountains and the Mediterranean, with the sea appearing again just when you thought you had left it behind.
